It's okay to be proud, it's okay to be ashamed. It's okay to be whoever you are, and feel whatever you feel. There is no right or wrong way to be you, so long as you are true to yourself.

Being a part of the LGBTQ community can mean feeling isolated and misunderstood. Being a part of the transgender community can often lead to an even greater sense of being on your own. The world is largely unaware of our existence, though that is slowly changing. It is up to us to ensure that fellow transmen do not experience the loneliness too often associated with transitioning.

Do you have questions about your transition, and aren't sure who to ask? Do you wish you had transgender friends who you could talk to about the unique challenges you face? Have you gone through part of your transition, and want to help others on their path? You've come to the right place.

The Evolution of Man is an organization dedicated to bringing people together in the hope of creating a stronger transgender community. There are many sites out there where you can blog, read other people's blogs, you can follow or like them, etc. All of those resources are great, but that's not the purpose of this site. The purpose of this site is to facilitate one-on-one mentor relationships between people in the transgender community.

Mentorship can take many forms...

No matter where you are in the process of your transition, there is someone out there who has been there before. Likewise, there will always be those who aren't as far along their path as you are, and could potentially benefit from your knowledge and experiences.

This mentorship program is not restricted to the traditional sense of mentoring. You needn't be an expert to be a mentor, and you needn't be young to seek a mentor.

  • Seeking a Mentor: The process of transitioning is a unique and deeply personal thing. There is no "right way" and there is no "wrong way." Having a mentor does not mean you need do anything someone else's way, it simply means having a connection with someone who can give advice and help with the steps necessary to achieve your goals.
  • Becoming a Mentor: There is no list of qualification requirements for becoming a mentor, all you need is a desire to make a positive difference in someone's life. Your goal as a mentor should be to develop a relationship of trust with the person whom you are mentoring. Be that person who they can talk to when no one else will listen. Be that person who can say "I understand" when most of the world cannot.
  • Seeking a Peer: The benefits of community networking go far beyond that of mentorship. Most of us do not have many close friends in our lives, at least not ones who can relate to us in terms of our gender identity. The peer relationship is whatever you want it to be - whether you're seeking a friend, a colleague, a pen pal, etc.
